After 72 hours of no sleep, little food, being shouted at, dealing with life-threatening injuries and even having guns pointed at them, 12 London bus drivers have made it through the 4th stage of the selection process.
"It was a tough call," said Mac Mackenney, Director of Max Adventure and leader of the London 2012 Bus to Beijing expedition, "all the candidates were top rate and almost every one of them had made the grade to represent the UK at the Beijing Games. At the end of the day though, we had to pick the top 12 and I know we have made the right decision."
Congratulation go to:
Wayne Ball, Wayne Ashe, Shawn Hurley, John Hickey, Sue Bates, Deborah Murray, Jose Baxter, Gagu Keshwala, John Hickey, Sandro Lobino, Paul Bennell and Diane King
These 12 now have to start their expedition training, which will include camp-craft, field cooking, first aid, navigation, radio and satellite communications and vehicle mechanics. During this intensive period they will be continually assessed to see who will be the 8 drivers to take part in the 10,000 mile expedfition and who will be the 4 reserves.
First stop is the Nomad Travel Clinic, where they will be subjected to a series of vaccinations - let's hope they all like needles!
