The Prometheus Medical 'Surviving Adenture' training weekend we've just completed was the first time that most of the team have come together. After a hard day in the field handling realistic medical emergencies we retired to our beds, where poor Jack soon learned that he will be in a car with 2 snorers!
I've been on a few medical courses before - most were all about tying pretty knots in arm slings, but this one was a case of really getting stuck in, not worrying if it was going to hurt them, but knowing you just had to get on with it if you wanted to save their life.
I was able to relate to our two experienced instructors and not being the best classroom person, found the realistic scenarios outdoors very useful - even though I dived for cover when they blew up a gas stove! I just hope we don’t have to use this training on our trip, but it's good to know that we are much better prepared for any emergency.
I guess the next time we all get together is for the 'Moss Marathon', when we recreate Stirling Moss' 1952 drive of 15 European countries in 5 days. It's not long now before we head off, so we're busy prepping the Land Rovers. I hope that my vehicle's Overdrive parts get back from Canada in time. I've also got to take off the roof rack and build a bed in the back - there are just not enough hours in the day.
