23:15 :: Almost 48 hours into the expedition, I'm feeling the excitement building. Apart from the almost continuous noxious gas emanating from Chris' anus, things are going OK in the car. Mac is assuming a more autocratic leadership style then before, I think his anxiety is building as the time runs out.
We have just had to do a flurry of driving into Austria and Slovenia. This was because we missed our chance of knocking off Austria by travelling through Liechtenstein earlier this morning followed by a route over the 2234 meter Julier pass in Switzerland.
The snow was falling thick and fast en-route to the top and had fallen a foot deep at the summit. The outside temperature was -7c with wind-chill taking it down further to maybe -20c.
We took some excellent photos and film footage then descended down into Italy. I woke to an outside temperature of 20c so an enormous difference. Mac did various calculations when we arrived in Milan and decided we were gonna go for Austria and Slovenia despite it being a 650 mile round trip.
I'm navigating at the moment with Chris driving and Mac sleeping in the back. We have just gone over the Wurzenpass in Slovenia (1334m) with its 18% road inclines and a T34 tank at the summit. We were to witness a shimmering sunset. ............ On into the night. Next stop Monaco!!! Got my tuxedo ready.

| By: Jason Buckingham | When: 17th Oct 2009 18:42 | It doesn't surprise me to hear about Chris's noxious gasses. I was nearly strangled to death about 10 years ago by one of Chris's silent trouser trumpets in our (barely) two man tent during a Hadrian's Wall Walk expedition! The fields were green, the tent was green...my face was then green! |
