Simon Groom and Garry Wakeling from Loctite gave us a demonstration of a glue that is used to bond rubber together and can be used to make O-rings of any size. Simon cut the rubber to length using a simple jig and Stanley blade to ensure a square cut and then breathed on each end to add a touch of moisture. The tiniest drop of Loctite glue was added and the two ends pressed together. Within seconds the glue had set and team mechanics Jim and Steve tried to pull it apart - it was impossible!
I would like to say a huge thanks to Staff Sergeant Chris McKenzie for arranging our Battle Damage Repair training day, all the other members of the British Army that made it possible and the guys from 3M and Loctite who took the trouble to come down and show us what their products can do. It was a fantastic day.
