After our day with the Army and meeting that evening, I came home and followed up the action to find out what were the most likely faults that we would encounter on the Land Rover Discoverys. I called 3 different Land Rover garages and they all independently came up with the same faults:
1. The green fuel hose from the tank to the fuel filter housing often perishes due to it rubbing on the chassis.
2. The flywheel has a tendency to break so if changing the clutch then fit the solid flywheel conversion.
3. Replace or take:
Spare fuel pump as the micro-filter will likely bung up.
The fuel pump relay is prone to stopping.
The fuel pressure regulator on the engine block gets faulty and will stop the engine.
All other components seem fairly reliable, but we’ll change what we need to before embarking on the record attempt.
